Collie Culture Training Day | Wrexham

A specialist small-group training day for Border Collies and their people.

This full-day workshop is designed for owners who want practical, thoughtful help with real-life training challenges. Especially the sort of challenges that can show up with bright, busy, sensitive or easily distracted Border Collies.

Rather than following a rigid one-size-fits-all lesson plan, the day will be shaped around the dogs and people attending. 

You’ll complete a short questionnaire before the workshop so Gemma can understand what each dog is coming for and plan the day around the group.

We may cover things such as:

• Building engagement and focus around real-life distractions
• Improving recall when there are exciting things happening
• Helping dogs think more clearly when they are aroused, frustrated or overwhelmed
• Working with movement sensitivity, including people, dogs, traffic, running or fast movement
• Building confidence in new places or situations
• Teaching calmer choices around food, toys and environmental rewards
• Helping your dog settle, wait and switch off between activities
• Understanding what your dog is telling you, and how to adjust your training plan

Essentially, how to help your dog think more clearly in situations they find difficult.

This is not a standard group class where all dogs work at the same time. Dogs will usually work one at a time, with plenty of opportunity for you to learn by watching the other dogs in the group. 

This makes the day suitable for many dogs who would find a busy class environment too much, provided they can rest safely between turns.

Handler place

A handler place includes one dog and up to two people from the same household or regular training team.

Only one dog is included per handler place, and one person will usually handle at a time unless Gemma suggests otherwise.

Spectator place

A spectator place is for anyone attending without a dog to learn by watching the workshop. One spectator place required per person.

This is ideal if your dog would find the environment too much, you want to build confidence before attending with your own dog in future, or you’re a dog trainer, behaviourist or other dog professional who would like to learn from watching a range of Border Collies and their people.

Timings

The workshop will run from approximately 10.00am to 4.00pm. 

Please aim to arrive 15 – 30 minutes before the start time, so you have time to find the venue, toilet your dog and get settled before we begin.

Please bring the following:

• Your own lunch
• Drinks
• Water and a bowl for your dog
• Dog training treats & toys
• Anything your dog needs to rest comfortably between turns (crate/ bedding etc.)

Full joining instructions, arrival guidance and a short pre-workshop questionnaire will be sent before the day.
