My lovely dog walker Clint has an equally lovely wife who made my dogs these delicious biscuits for a Christmas present. All the dogs thought they were fantastic, and were very keen to train for them over the holidays!
They also last for a couple of weeks when stored appropriately – in a tin or similar airtight container. Probably more suitable for training at home than out and about because of the crumbs when you break them up.
Recipe:
4 cups white flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
6 ounces tuna, drained
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Combine all ingredients.
- Turn out on floured surface and knead until firm, a little more flour may be needed.
- Roll to required thickness, cut with cookie cutter, or pizza wheel.
- Bake for 30 minutes, (or until required colour) then turn off heat, let biscuits stand in oven for until hard and crispy.
NB: You can use any fish really; I used pilchards and tuna this time but have also used cooked mackerel.
