Is this suitable for reactive dogs?

This day may be suitable for dogs who bark, lunge, fixate or struggle around other dogs, people, movement or exciting environments. Dogs will not be expected to work alongside all the other dogs at once, and the day is designed with sensitive dogs in mind. However, if your dog would be unable to settle safely between turns, or would find travelling/being at the venue overwhelming, please contact us before booking.

Will all the dogs work at the same time?

No. This is not run like a normal group class. Dogs will usually work one at a time, and the rest of the group will learn by watching, discussing and taking notes. This helps keep the day calmer and more useful for the dogs attending.

Where will my dog wait between turns?

Most dogs will rest in their vehicle between turns. Please make sure your dog is comfortable waiting in your vehicle or crate, with whatever they need to settle. Full venue-specific guidance will be sent before the workshop.

Can I bring more than one dog?

A handler place includes one working dog. Please do not bring additional dogs unless this has been agreed in advance.

Can my partner / family member come with me?

Yes. A handler place includes one dog and up to two people from the same household or regular training team. This is ideal if two people are involved in the dog’s day-to-day training and would both benefit from hearing the same guidance.

What is the difference between a handler place and a spectator place?

A handler place is for one dog and their human training team. Your dog will have working time during the day. A spectator place is for someone attending without a dog to learn by watching the workshop.

Will I get individual help with my dog?

Yes, each handler dog will have individual working time with Gemma. However, this is still a small-group workshop rather than a private one-to-one. Part of the value of the day is learning from the other dogs and people in the group too.

What if my dog can’t cope on the day?

We will work with the dog in front of us. Sometimes that means doing less, changing the setup, increasing distance, or focusing on helping the dog settle rather than pushing through a planned exercise. The aim is not to force dogs to perform, but to give you useful information and realistic next steps.

What should I bring?

Please bring plenty of high-value food, toys your dog enjoys, water, a bowl, a lead/harness setup your dog is comfortable in, a mat or bedding if useful, poo bags, lunch and drinks for yourself, and anything your dog needs to rest comfortably between turns.

Is lunch included?

No. Please bring your own lunch and drinks. Venue facilities vary, so it is safest to come prepared.

What happens after I book?

You’ll receive confirmation of your place, followed by venue-specific joining instructions closer to the day. You’ll also be asked to complete a short pre-workshop questionnaire so Gemma can understand your dog and plan the day around the group.
